Amazon Chooses 20 Finalists for New Headquarters

In 2017, Amazon announced that it was going to start a search looking for a new home for its second corporate headquarters. Initially, Amazon received bids from 238 different cities throughout North America. Each city tried its best to come up with an incentive package that Amazon may want to consider, many of which were tax-related. Each city that made a bid had to meet certain criteria in order to be considered, including that there was a population of at least 1 million residents. Amazon stated that the second headquarters would be just as important and vital to the company as its first headquarters that is located in Seattle, Washington. Now, it seems that Amazon wants to take its new headquarters to the East Coast, as many of the options are in eastern U.S. cities.

Just today, Amazon announced that it has narrowed down its list from 238 prospective new homes to just 20. The 20 cities that are left for consideration include Atlanta; Austin; Boston; Chicago; Columbus, OH; Dallas; Denver; Indianapolis; Los Angeles; Miami; Montgomery County, MD; Nashville; Newark; Northern Virginia; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Raleigh; Toronto; and Washington, D.C.

Amazon is anticipated to make its final decision on a new headquarters location at some point during 2018. Of course, the impact on a HQ will be tremendous on the city it will call home.
