On Wednesday, March 20, Amazon expanded into a brand new retail market. The company launched its first-ever skincare and beauty line, Belei.

The company carried several high-end skincare brands for years, but now it is their time to take a chance and branch out with their own brand. The name of the brand, Belei, combines the two words (as well as their meanings) “beauty” and “believe.” It consists of 12 different skin care items including moisturizers, serums, cleansers, masks, eye creams, spot treatments, and more. The products target several skin concerns from anti-aging to wrinkles. Shoppers can enjoy products such as the Retinol Refining Moisturizer, Vitamin serums, Triple-Peptide Eye Cream, Oil-Free moisturizers, a charcoal mask, and more.
Belei wants you to feel good about what you are putting on your face. All products are free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and fragrance. They are not tested on animals, come in recyclable packaging, and are all dermatologist approved.

Amazon’s head of beauty for private brands, Kara Trousdale, stated that they wanted to “help customers spend less time and money searching for the right skincare solutions.”

The beauty industry is booming in the United States, reaching $18.8 billion in sales during 2018, which was up 6% from the year before. Sales in skincare alone increased by 13% in 2018, accumulating $5.6 billion during the year.
