Amazon taking steps towards wine
It seems every day, Amazon announces a new venture. This time, it’s wine. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has decided to branch out into creating three wines with the brand name “Next.” Amazon has partnered with King Estate Winery in Oregon to create three different types of wine that will be released under Amazon Wine. Next will feature a red blend, a pinot gris, and a pinot noir. Amazon believes this is a great opportunity for wineries such as King Estate Winery to reach a huge customer base and access to millions of sales.
Currently, on Amazon Wines, customers have access to over 8,150 different wines from all over the world, ranging from single bottles to full cases. Customers have the option of whether they want to purchase a single bottle, a set of 3, a box of 6, or even a full box of 12 bottles. Customers have the option to purchase mixed packs of wine with different blends of the same brand. In fact, customers can buy all three bottles of Next wine in a pack for $90.00. Many Amazon Wines are eligible for shipping for just 1 cent.
Unfortunately, Amazon won’t ship to every state quite yet but many of them are available. Those that aren’t include Alaska, Alabama, Hawaii, South Dakota, Delaware, Rhode Island, Maine, Kentucky, Mississippi, Indiana, and more.
It will be interesting to see where Amazon’s wine business goes and whether they will partner with more wineries. If you are a winery interested in selling on Amazon, consult with an experienced Amazon CPA today.
