Amazon to Lighten Seller Requirements as COVID-19 Pandemic Rages On

Last August, the tech giant announced that come February 2021, all members of Amazon’s Seller Fulfilled Prime program will have to make deliveries on Saturdays and have merchandise delivered within one or two days of an order being placed. This was not a particularly welcome announcement for most Amazon sellers, however, in a recent announcement, Amazon has stated that due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the trouble it has created for everyone, Amazon sellers will not be penalized if they cannot meet these shipping requirements for all of their customers. More specifically, as long as members of Amazon’s Seller Fulfilled Prime Program can meet at least 55% of their deadlines, they will not face repercussions.

In a memo, Amazon stated, “While we know sellers like you are working to raise the bar for Prime customers, we also understand that the pandemic has introduced constraints on the logistics industry that you depend on to meet customer expectations. In recognition of these constraints, we are adjusting the one- and two-day delivery speed targets.”

This comes as welcome news to members of the Program, though Amazon has not yet stated for how long it would delay the leniency.
