Cyber Monday 2018: Amazon’s Biggest Sales Day Ever
The biggest shopping days of the year are Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Stores, both online and brick and mortar, offer their best deals of the year to entice customers who are looking to save money and expand the power of their dollar during the holiday season. Black Friday is heavily attached to the idea of people camping outside of stores, even as early as during Thanksgiving dinner, to make sure they can stampede inside to get the best deals. This crazy shopping day often lends itself to injured customers, security guards, and employees, as well as arrests and crowd control efforts. While some people enjoy going Black Friday shopping, more shoppers than ever before are enjoying the same great deals from the comfort of their own homes on Cyber Monday.
This Cyber Monday, Americans spent nearly $8 billion online, which is a drastic 19 percent increase from the same day in 2017. Amazon itself sold over 18 million toys and over 13 million fashion items on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined. The top selling item during that holiday shopping weekend was Amazon’s Echo Dot, the smallest member of the Alexa-enabled device family. Not only was Amazon selling their products online, but they also set up shop in Kohl’s stores and were selling their Amazon enabled tv sets in Best Buy stores.
Bloomberg news reports that brick and mortar store traffic was down by 1 percent on Black Friday compared with 2017 and 6.6 percent over the course of the holiday weekend.
