Holiday Season 2018: Yet Another Record Breaker for Amazon Sales

Each year, it seems as though Amazon breaks its own record for highest sales during the holiday season. Of course, the 2018 holiday season was no exception. In fact, Amazon announced that more items than ever before were ordered globally from the company during the holiday sales season. When this was announced, Amazon’s stock jumped up 9.5 percent, which is quite significant, especially after it plunged by 10 percent after a disappointing report of earnings in the third quarter.

Amazon reported that some of the most popular items sold during the holiday shopping season included the Echo Dot, LOL Surprise Glam Glitter Series Doll, Bose QuietComfort Wireless Headphones, and clothing items from Carhartt. More Amazon devices, including the Fire TV Stick 4K, Alexa devices, and Kindle products, were sold than they were during the 2017 holiday season. Customers were able to purchase these items, among many others, at discounted rates, which ultimately allowed them to have greater purchasing power.

Not only did Amazon sell more physical products this year than ever before, but they also expanded their Amazon Prime membership. In fact, the company’s press release states that tens of millions of people signed up for paid memberships or free-trials. Of course, these customers wanted to join the ranks of everyone else who gets to benefit from free two-day shipping. Some were even able to enjoy free same day or one-day shipping.
